6 Winter Wedding trends that will continue to dominate well into 2023

As the crisp fall weather is finally making an appearance, it’s time to take a look at the biggest trends for the Fall/Winter wedding season in Austin, particularly those that are certain to continue to dominate well into 2023.

The world has chosen to go back to normalcy and so have couples with their wedding celebrations. But not all is out with the old in with the new; in classic wedding tradition, when talking about current dominant trends we can find “something old something new something borrowed something blue”. Wanna know what we mean? Read on!

INTIMATE WEDDINGS

Intimate weddings are a trend that took force during the pandemic but one that wasn’t left behind once the world moved back to normal. Couples still favor having smaller guest lists, but that doesn’t mean the budgets are equally smaller! Instead, those who make the shortened guest list are likely to encounter a luxury experience where priority is given to quality over quantity in every aspect. And even when the list is not reduced, couples are going the extra mile selecting adaptable wedding venues that can be filled with partitioned nooks and cozy spaces that aim to create that intimate ambiance even for larger groups.

DESTINATION WEDDINGS

Happy couples are happier hopping into planes with friends and family and saying their “I DOs” in fun locations around the globe. Some prefer tropical locations such as Bali or Mexico and go all-in for the coastal wedding theme that is so in vogue, while others prefer to create a fun event in more urban settings. No matter how much are destination weddings, they are back in full force giving couples and guests an excuse to make the event a joyous full long weekend getaway.

BOLD FASHION STATEMENTS

Now that we talked about something borrowed (from the pandemic) and something old that’s back, let’s look into what’s new (and sometimes blue): fashion! The latest wedding trends in fashion bring to the table a handful of bold elements. At the top of the list? Non white wedding dresses and in particular, full skirt dresses in peach tones (the more adventurous even going for jewel tones in bold blues and different shades of pink).  Other bold design elements are the adoption of 80’s bows and the reintroduction of the puff sleeves wedding dress, one-shoulder gowns and more modern pantsuits and jumpsuits not only for the bridesmaids but for the bride herself.

CONTRASTING FLORALS AND WHIMSICAL LIGHTING

When it comes to floral fashion, what’s in vogue are petite barely-there garden style bouquets, in contrast with potted plants and other over the top design elements such as grand flower arrangements of different heights and vessels decorating the intimate wedding venues.

Pro tip: for winter weddings, consider adding a curtain of string lights behind the head table to provide a nice whimsical touch with holiday vibes; complement it with the use of metallic colors for the glassware, plate chargers, flower vases and other decor elements and the result will be top notch!

SUSTAINABILITY

Sustainability is not a new trend, but it’s definitely one that’s becoming more widespread as the years go by and we’re all for it! Couples are favoring vendors aligned with sustainable practices: from farm-to-table caterers to online save-the-dates, rental wedding dresses and recycled paper invitations just to name a few. Another sustainable trend? Repurposing and recycling decor elements such as reusing the ceremony flowers for your reception, or donating them to local organizations or charities that can pass them along for someone else to enjoy after your special day.

EXPERIENCE DINING

When it comes to food (our favorite subject!) experience dining is the “it” trend. As we mentioned before, couples are favoring quality over quantity when it comes to anything wedding and food couldn’t be the exception. Guests are being pampered with curated seasonal menus and experience dining where meals are prepared in front of their own eyes in specialty stations or provided by a masterful chef out of a food truck, the options are endless!

At Royal Fig, every item on our menu is designed to showcase seasonal flavors, like our most recent fall addition, Butternut bucatini: a scrumptious mix of locally sourced butternut squash, bucatini pasta, toasted pecans and ricotta. We can also offer a variety of stations so you can jump in this experience dining trend to pamper lucky guests at your upcoming wedding.
