Like so many of our customers, we never foresaw all of the ways that a pandemic like COVID-19 could rock our world. The food industry has been transformed across the board. Here at Royal Fig, we’ve taken current events especially seriously because we aren’t just concerned with serving great food — we’re dedicated to helping our clients enjoy their events as much as possible.
At the outset of the pandemic, we joined other Austin-area catering companies in making the Caterer’s Promise. Together we pledged to implement all government mandated precautions and more. All of our team members are certified in safe food handling practices, and all employees undergo a health screening before the start of every shift:
- We log staff member temperatures (which cannot exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit).
- We ensure they’re wearing their masks and gloves properly.
- We include a COVID-19 procedure monitor on every shift.
- We ask all staff members to stay home if they feel unwell.
We’ve even gone above and beyond to ensure that you can focus on enjoying your gathering, whether it’s a wedding, baby shower, or corporate team building event. From the outset of the pandemic, we created special training videos for all of our staff members, with specific trainings dedicated to our bar, buffet, and plated services.
At every event we require all staff members to wash their hands and change gloves every 30 minutes. To ensure that our teams can meet these expectations, we make hand washing and sanitizing stations available to all of our staff at every event location.
Royal Fig has also taken special care to minimize the potential for surface, utensil, tabletop item, condiment, and food contamination. We’ve purchased over 20 acrylic barriers to accommodate a variety of event set ups, from free-standing barriers for small stations to larger barriers to cover entire 6-foot tables. In accordance with our pledge, we utilize these barriers to protect all buffets, bars, beverage stations, and appetizer stations. We also ensure that all service items remain clean and wrapped in back-of-house until in use, and we do not leave them unattended while guests are present. Anytime a pre-set item is touched and the guest walks away, our staff clears the item, sanitizes, and replaces it.
In addition to requiring our team members to wear masks and gloves, we’ve established procedures to ensure that guests are also wearing masks as they approach bar and food areas. We understand that fun, noisy events could make ordering a drink a little more challenging with a mask on, so we’ve also created drink order cards to keep things running smoothly.
We ensure that our screened staff members serve all food and beverages to minimize cross contamination, even for buffet services, and all condiments are available upon request in single-use portions.
We have truly tried to think of every last detail so that you don’t have to. Understandably all of these precautions have resulted in unexpected changes for our clients. As a result, we are also allowing our family-style service clients to shift to a plated menu at no additional charge. We also help our guests review and adjust seating capacities to meet social distancing guidelines when necessary.
We’re working with corporate teams to help them implement creative catering and logistics ideas to help employees feel connected, even as they work remotely. We’ve also adjusted our offerings to reflect the growing need for individually portioned event food options, whether it is for a plated service event or a drop-off catering client.
No matter what you are celebrating or gathering together for, we are dedicated to taking the precautions necessary for a safe and fun event. If you have a question, concern, or challenge, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us so that we can partner with you in navigating these difficult times.
